Wednesday night we made a daring decision. We went grocery shopping before
dinner. Dangerous, but I packed supplies, including grapes and a apple
juice box. It went really super well... so well, I was surprised. At the
deli counter, Hana said "Hi. Can we have some ham?" and "Hi. Can we have
some bologna?" The ladies give her slices of bologna and ham all the
time.
Then, she asked for a cookie, because the bakery gives kids free cookies
if they ask. Since it was before dinner, I told her she could have one,
but only if we put it in a plastic bag and ate it after dinner. She said
yes, and diligently put the cookie in a plastic produce bag and saved it.
After dinner she asked if she could eat her cookie, so we got her a glass
of milk and Julian and her ate their cookies (he had some boxed ones)
while I cleared the table. I got back and Hana had a little piece left
(Julian's were gone, he doesn't waste time). She asked me, "Mommy, do you
want a cookie?" so I said "Yes please!" She looked around and didn't see
any more, so she said "I can share with you." and broke off half of her
remaining cookie and gave it to me. I was so proud. :)
In other news, Hana is really growing up. She was typing on the computer
the other day and wrote "AHNA" and said it was her name. She's also
written "DAW" on the computer for mine. She can recognize all her letters
and count to 14 or so consistently. As you can see from the story above,
she's very good at sharing.
We're teaching her to tell time, the most important being 8 o'clock. Last
night I called out, "Hana, time to clean up your toys!" and she said "Oh!
It's almost eight o'clock! I better hurry!" It was 7:55 or so. So she
knows bedtime is eight.
She says so many funny things, I know I should be writing them down, but I
have a hard time finding the time to do so. She does everything at a run,
never walking. She's now brushing her teeth before bed, and mommy checks
to make sure there's nothing left. She will wash her own hair, and
especially likes to wash her knees. I rinse her hair for her, and she
almost never cries any more, since she's learnt to tilt her head back and
keep the water out of her eyes. She loves to paint using the add-water
type of books and will put her smock
on herself. She also loves stickers and drawing.
Here she is jumping with joy wearing her smock and playing with markers.
She can open them, but brings them to me to close.
She really likes to
type on the computer and has learnt to change the colour of the font in
Word and Paint using the touch pad of the laptop, and is so proud of
herself, especially when she "clicks it off!" meaning she clicks on a
message that comes up and gets rid of it.
Hana is a little helper, and loves to fold socks, put diaper cream on Sara
and help set the table. She also will help make supper. She's shaken the
shake-n-bake bag, put sauce, pepperoni and cheese on pizza and helped make
juice from concentrate. She still loves apple juice and milk to drink,
but has added grape juice and orange juice (which until a few days ago she
called "lello juice") to her tastes. She always want to taste what we're
eating, even if she doesn't like it.
We read her a story almost every night, and one of them is called "When I
was small" and the main character is Vanessa. Hana will pick up her
pretend phone and call Vanessa whenever we finish reading it. Next time
I'll have to write down what she says.
Speaking of calling, she's getting very good at using the phone. When she
answers she says "Hello, this is Hana." and when she's done she'll say
"Ok, See You, Bye Bye!" all in one breath. It's better than when she'd
just give the phone back! She is the most excited of all when Auntie Gwen
calls or she gets to call her
She likes to put on the hood from her parka when going for walks instead
of her hat. It makes people smile!
Here's Hana "enjoying" lunch. If you ask her what she wants to eat, she
always answers "grilled cheese!"
Hana loves to play. Here she is beside her "tracks" which is what she
calls her Thomas the Train set, and playing with her pizza cutters
and puzzles.
Here she is sharing her letters with Sara. It's OK since Sara doesn't
really grab well yet, but she won't be able to share these little toys for
long!
Auntie Frances was very generous and gave us 5 bins of toys, and Hana was
thrilled. She plays with them every evening. Here she is the first
night, it was like Christmas!
We went to Auntie Gwen's house last weekend, and Hana helped Adam bag some
leaves. She had a blast outside!
And of course, she loves eating cereal on the couch Saturday and Sunday
mornings with her family.
On October 9-13 Hana and Sara stayed at Granny Janet's house with a whole
bunch of family while Julian and Dawn took a trip to Minneapolis. She was
a really good girl and helped take care of Sara. Auntie Erin said she was
just a perfect little angel.

Just
a quick post - Happy Fall!
August 30, 2008
A lot has happened in the last month. Hana went to her dad's company's BBQ and waterslide day, and had a really great time.
Her Auntie Gwen bought a house, and is preparing to move out. I think Hana will really miss her a lot, but fortunately it's not that far away, so we can go and visit often!
Right now Hana is with her grandparents giving mom and dad a little break, but we'll be heading out to visit with them in a few minutes once Sara wakes up from her morning nap. We're all going to celebrate Grandpa Brian's birthday! You can see Hana singing Happy Birthday by going to the movies (uses YouTube) page.
Hana also has a new alarm clock in her room. She's not a morning person, like her mom, and has a hard time getting up. So her dad thought that giving her an alarm clock would help. The first time it went off in the morning she came into the kitchen and announced that her music had turned on! Then she wanted to eat and get dressed in her room to keep listening to her music. She was very happy. I think she also likes to see the numbers.
The other day she was looking at the baby bath thermometer while she was in the bath. I asked her what the temperature was, and she said it was "eight pounds." I think we need to work on her units of measurement a little bit more.
So when I was packing for her to go to her grandparents, I thought she might like to have this in her suitcase too, along with her pyjamas, shirts and shorts and party dress.
